This is the code of ethics for the new College of American Real Estate Investors being launched this weekend by Denver-area lawyer William Bronchick.
As we work to ensure professionalism in all areas of business related to real estate investing, we are guided not by rules, but by principles. Our core principle is fairness—by and for all parties, in all forms of real estate related dealings, at all times.
CAREI believes that our actions, not our words, most effectively guide the actions of others. We resolve to hold ourselves to the highest standards of fair behavior, striving not just for compliance with the letter of laws and statutes, but with respect for their spirit and intent.
-
CAREI members engaged in real estate activities shall not knowingly provide false or misleading information to other parties in order to secure a transaction or influence a sale. This restriction includes exaggerated or understated claims about property value, misrepresentations of business relationships, and unsubstantiated predictions of the likelihood of transactional outcomes.
-
CAREI members must, at all times, comply with all applicable laws and regulations of the federal government and of their state and local jurisdictions
-
No CAREI member shall in any way defame, disparage or undermine another investor’s reputation in order to promote his or her own services. Conversely, no member shall falsely claim relational bonds with other member for self-promotion or to influence transactional outcomes.
-
No CAREI member will engage in false or misleading advertising to secure a buyer, renter or seller of real estate.
-
CAREI will treat all members, employees, and business associates fairly, with dignity and respect.
-
CAREI must comply with all applicable laws and regulations of the federal government and of their state and local jurisdictions.
-
CAREI will immediately address any reported violation of the Code of Ethics by Members or Board members.
-
CAREI shall not discriminate against employees, Members or colleagues on the basis of age, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, or any basis proscribed by law.
-
CAREI Board members shall act with honesty and integrity and seek to promote the interests of the College whenever possible.
-
CAREI Board members shall assist Members and non-member peers alike in their professional development and in their personal adherence to this code.
-
CAREI recognizes that real estate business opportunities depend on the trust vested by the public in real estate professionals. That trust comes with an obligation to put public interest first in matters affecting neighborhoods, property values, and residential living.
-
CAREI shall promote public awareness of the positive role that real estate investors play in the nation’s economy and will always seek to educate the public in matters of personal property ownership and in the avoidance of abuse by unscrupulous investors.
